Workout planner apps UK: choose for the training you actually do
Start with your main activity and the decisions you want help making. A running programme, an adaptive strength planner and a broad health app are not interchangeable.

Match the app to the job
Fitbod describes personalised workouts using training history, goals, recovery and available equipment. NHS Couch to 5K provides a free beginner running route. BestBody’s published scope connects training with meals and progress, with early-access availability.
| Option | Main fit | Question before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Fitbod | Personalised strength workouts | Does it cover your equipment and preferred logging workflow? |
| NHS Couch to 5K | Beginning a running routine | Does the programme fit your starting point and schedule? |
| BestBody | A connected food and training week | Are the current access and wider tools useful to you? |
Check your real training setting
List the equipment you can use on a normal day, not the equipment you might buy later. Check whether exercises can be swapped and whether the log preserves what you actually completed.
If you travel or alternate between home and gym, try building both sessions before choosing a subscription. A useful planner should make the difference between those settings understandable.
Make the log useful next week
For strength, look for a clear record of exercise, sets, repetitions and load. For running, decide how you will use time, distance and effort. Avoid choosing solely on the number of exercises or charts advertised.
Coordinate a mixed week
If you combine running and strength, look at the whole calendar before adding sessions. The most detailed plan is not useful if it does not fit your time or allow recovery. Keep one primary goal and make the other activity support it.
Evaluate access and cost honestly
Check trial length, renewal terms and current availability. BestBody publishes £6 monthly or £50 annually and invites early-access registration. No app in this comparison is presented as a guarantee of fitness results.
Choose a manageable routine that suits your experience. If injury, symptoms or a health condition affect activity, obtain appropriate advice before following a general plan.
