In brief: a reference-food value, a packaged-food label, an estimate, a device measurement and a user correction are not interchangeable. BestBody keeps that distinction available so a user can review the basis of a record and correct editable values.

UK reference foods: CoFID

The UK government's Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset (CoFID) ↗ supports nutrition values for UK reference foods. It consolidates analysed and compiled information about foods in the UK food supply; it is not a live catalogue of every brand, recipe or supermarket product.

Version and refresh status: BestBody has not published the precise CoFID release attached to each in-app record or a fixed data-refresh timetable. This page therefore makes no claim about a specific deployed CoFID version or sync frequency. The source shown for a food record and the current pack label remain important context.

Packaged foods, labels and barcodes

Packaged-product records can use current product information and Open Food Facts data. Open Food Facts is a community-contributed product database, so a record can be incomplete, out of date or associated with a formulation sold in another market. A barcode locates an identifier; it does not guarantee that the name, ingredients, serving or nutrition panel is current. For a specific packaged food, the label on the pack in hand is the practical reference and the BestBody record remains editable.

Open Food Facts reuse terms: Open Food Facts says its database is available under the Open Database Licence, its individual contents under the Database Contents Licence and its product images under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence, with possible third-party rights in graphical elements. Reusers must follow the applicable attribution and share-alike conditions described in the official Open Food Facts licensing guidance ↗. This describes the source publisher's general terms; it does not claim that BestBody redistributes every database field or any product image.

How conflicting food values are handled

Source specificity matters. A current label for the exact packaged product normally provides better product-specific context than a generic reference-food record. CoFID is useful for unbranded UK reference foods, while a user-confirmed weight or portion determines how much is logged. When values disagree, BestBody avoids presenting a blended number as false certainty: the user can inspect the source, compare it with the food or pack and correct the editable record.

User-entered food, workouts and measurements

Meals, recipes, portions, workouts, hydration, weight, measurements and corrections supplied by the user remain part of their record. A saved value retains source and time context where relevant so it can be distinguished from a reference value, device measurement or estimate. A manual correction is not treated as a new laboratory analysis.

GPS and outdoor activity

Phone GPS samples support route, distance, pace and speed estimates. Device, signal, pauses, terrain and processing can affect accuracy, so an outdoor record is not a clinical measurement. Comparing like with like over time is often more useful than treating one reading as exact.

Apple Health and Health Connect

Supported data can be read from Apple Health or Android Health Connect only with the relevant permission. The originating phone, wearable or app remains responsible for the measurement it contributed. BestBody does not imply a direct integration with every device brand, and imported data can carry the limitations of its originating sensor or calculation.

AI-assisted interpretation

AI can help interpret a request or explain the available data. It is not a source of food composition or sensor measurements and does not replace the underlying record. Read Nutrition Methodology, How Our AI Works and Limitations.

If a public BestBody page appears to attribute a value incorrectly, include the page address, the value and the source you believe is current when you use the contact form. Product records should still be checked against the item in hand, especially after a reformulation.
