Packaged-food search helps locate familiar branded and supermarket items.
Per-100g values make products comparable while serving values support everyday logging.
Ingredients, allergens and provenance remain attached where the underlying source provides them.
A useful food record has to match the item, preparation state and portion actually eaten. BestBody combines CoFID reference foods with packaged-food information and keeps the source context visible. Reference data and changing branded labels serve different purposes, so neither is presented as complete coverage of every UK meal.
CoFID is well suited to generic foods and established composition values. A current package label is more relevant for a specific branded product whose recipe may change. BestBody distinguishes these records so a user can choose the closest source instead of assuming every similarly named item is nutritionally identical.
Even a reliable per-100g record produces the wrong diary total when the amount is wrong. Check whether the entry is cooked or uncooked, drained or undrained, and whether a listed serving matches what was eaten. Saved corrections can make repeat meals faster without discarding that context.
Look for a familiar reference food or the labelled packaged product that best matches what was eaten.
Distinguish CoFID reference foods from packaged-food records and review the available provenance.
Use per-100g and serving information, then confirm ingredients, allergens and portion assumptions where available.
Understand the source behind a food record, then use it for nutrition, calorie and meal planning without treating reference values as a live product label.
