During an outdoor activity, the device collects location samples and the app uses them to estimate the path, distance, speed and pace. Signal quality, sampling, buildings, trees and device settings affect those estimates. Moving, elapsed and paused time also answer different questions about the session.

Enable the required location permission, allow the device a clear view of the sky where practical and wait for a usable signal before moving. Battery-saving settings and carrying position can affect recording. Even with good preparation, bends and obstructed areas may produce imperfect points.
